The following are the early varieties sown in the district. Arran banners, Epicures, Kerrpinks, Early Puritans. Some of the later varieties are Arren chiefs, Presidents, Arran victory, Leinster Wonders, Garden Fillers, King Edwards, and Champions. Long ago the champion was considered the very best eating potato, but it was sown year after year, and finally it grew very small. You would scarcely find one in the district now.
