- 2 The kinds of houses in olden times were thatched. They were made from clay and then were thatched all round the sides and gables, and there used to be iron roofs on some houses in olden times.
The thatch was made from rushes or straw. The straw was got from the threshed oats.
The old houses had a bed in the kitchen. It's place is built out in the wall and it is placed near the fire. It is called "a pristey" and a "pouch" bed.
