    A Local Poem
About 30 years ago Frank Mc.Phillips' horse (Latnamard, Newbliss, broke into John O'Neills corn stooks. There was a scarecrow in the field. John O'Neill was very angry about the horse destroying the corn. The following was composed by Patrick Fitzpatrick, Carn, Newbliss about the event.
Of course a coat is good enough
For scaring chicks & hens & crows
But blood & thunder! it's no use
    For prodding a horse's nose.
There is no use in scolding, John!
    Nor tearing of your pate
But slyly cross your stubble = field
    And securely lock your gate.
