- The name of my townland is Knockananleg, the district is Castelisland and the barony is Truchenacny. The approximate number of people in the town of Castleisland is about 1500, and the approximate number of families is about 500. The names of families that are most common are the Sullivans, Prendivilles, O'Connor, Murphys and Brosnans. There are a great many houses built in the new, and there are not many thatched houses there now. There were more houses in the olden times than now, and there are not many ruins because wheere they wee houses were built. The population in former times was greater than it is now. a great many hills surround the town, and a good deal of the land is boggy There is one wood about 6 acres growing about the town. The owner of it is Major Marshall.The Maine is the principal river, but there are a number of small rivers. Theres a hole in the river Maine called - the moonlighter's box - Great numbers of people emigrated to America and England formerly - and presently numbers are going to England.
