  1. Long ago people ate three meals a day. Sometimes they had gruel and milk , but mostly they had potatoes three times a day. The people of that time got up at five o'clock and were working until 8 o'clock in the morn., They came in then and had potatoes and butter and a mug of buttermilk and went to work again and at their dinner they had potatoes and nettles. For their supper they had potatoes, buttermilk and yellow squares and they took off their shoes and washed their feet and went to bed. They had no rambling but off for bed to be up early next morning.
    When they were going to the bog the woman of the house carried the dinner in a churn and all the potatoes she had and warm milk. They also had fish that they caught in the river. In winter they poached the river for salmon and they were barefooted and they had splinters made of bogdeal to see them.
    They worked very hard at that time,
