In olden times when the landlords owned the land of Renalough and when rent was very high, there was a sing made about Ranalough and the name of it was "the land behind the lake." It ran this -
Alas for Clounareeney the land is cheap enough,
But I pity those poor people who live at Ranalough,
They must sell out their cows and land,
And with their children emigrate,
While there's three pound ten an acre,
For the "land behind the lake."
