  1. Long ago people did their own dyeing with moss. This moss grew on large rocks and stones and on the trucks of old trees. The people went out and gathered the moss in baskets and brought it home. All dirt and foreign matter was picked out of it. The moss was then boiled for some time. When boiled it was strained. It was again put on the fire to boil, the clothes were then put into it and left there to boil for a long time.
    They were then taken up, rinsed and left out to dry. When dry
