- Long ago when there were no motorcars or bicycles in the country, the people travelled on foot and the wealthier people rode on horseback.
At funerals instead of a hearse the people in this locality had a cart in which to carry the coffin. The people who had carts went in them to the graveyard. Those who had no carts rode on horseback.
During the famine years when so many were dying and the people were too poor to buy coffins or habits, they rolled the corpse up in a sheet and laid it to rest in a grave.Transcribed by a member of our volunteer transcription project.
