Some years ago the people of Ireland made their own baskets. Thin sally rods were cut and left to season. There was a round hoop got and a line of strong rods put from one side to the other. Then the thin seasoned rods were plaited in and out between the strong ones. They were plaited very close to each other. This basket was called a potato basket and was green in colour.
They made another kind of basket which they used for holding clothes.
The thin rods were boiled and skinned and plaited into white baskets
