  1. After sunset "fear a' tighe" takes a reaping hook and goes away as quietly as possible, bent on a special mission. He cuts a bundle of rushes, and conceals it outside the house until the time arrives for supper.
    Then, he again leaves the house and walking about the stables in the direction of the sun picks up the bundle and thus completes one circuit.
    When he reaches the open door all within kneel down and listen attentively to his petition:- Téighigidh ar bhur nglúna, foscluigidh bhur súile agus leigigidh isteach Brígid.
    To which the kneeling household answer:-
