- Long ago in Ireland the people had no ploughs with which to till the land. They had to dig it with spades. The first ploughs that came out were not like the ones we have now. They were made of timber. There was a small piece of iron in the front for cutting the land. In those days horses were not used to draw the plough but a pair of bullocks.Transcribed by a member of our volunteer transcription project.
