   Maguire blushed, and wept in silence,

   This lady knelt down and begged his pardon,
   Saying, ''I find, kind sir, I have made too free
   But if I offended, I n'er intended,
   So I hope your reverence will pardon me.
   I loved you dearly beyond description:
   You glancing beauty did me ensnare.
   Now, for your sake, I'll join a convent,
   And a single lady I will remain.''

   Maquire parted with this fair lady.
   To the County Leitrim he was sent away,
   Where he was made welcome by true Milesians,
   Like our Patriarchs, on St. Patrick's Day.
