    The surname of St. Molaise was Meehan. He was a native of the little village of Ballaghameehan. Some of the older people about Ballaghameehan say that St. Molaise brought the Soiscéal from Rome. But others say that St. Molaise, when Abbot on Devenish Island, employed scribes to write it.
    The Soiscéal was a copy of the Gospels. St Molaise prized it very much and had it built into a wall which surrounded Tobar Molaise. When St. Molaise died none of the other monks knew where the copy of the Gospels was. Years
