    In olden times a blacksmith named, Redican had a forge in Gorvagh opposite Murphys shop. He made all the farm implements such as hay forks with two prongs and manure forks with three prongs. He made a carpenters tools, hatchets, planes, chisels, and the nails he used.
    Blacksmiths in those days went to the bog to cut three feet of coal turf and near them and bring them home and build them at the forge until they were two years old then they put a fire on the hearth and half burned them and quenched them with water and lit them again to heat the iron. All blacksmiths were professionals at making Poteen and they could drink some of it themselves.
