These two mountains have associated with them many legends whose origin are lost int the mists of time. It was said by old story tellers that they were the last resting places of Kings and Chieftains of the highest rank and many of whom were buried before the dawn of Christianity in Ireland, and when the Druids held sway. The inscriptions on the golden badges of rank found on the skeletons in Sheebeg are thought by some to be in the Ogham writing, and the bodies were faced towards the Royal seat of Tara.
