During the summer months the crop is sprayed three times and they are also grubbed a few times. In Autumn the potatoes are dug with a potato-digger, a plough, or a spade. When the potatoes are dug in the evening my father and my brothers pick them. The potatoes are always stored in pits in this district. The big potatoes are stored in a pit for themselves and they are used for the household. Then the small potatoes are put in another pit and they are given to pigs and fowl. The potatoes that are sown locally are Champions, Aran Banners, and flounders and the potatoes that grow best are Champions. There are no potatoes used instead of starch now but they were used long-ago
