    slated buildings. There was a landlord living on top of a hill in a big castle and on account of that Castleblakeney got its name. Blakeney was the landlord's name. There are a few old people living in the townland but they dont know any Irish. Mrs Anne Raftery, Lehenaugh, Castleblakeney, Mrs Margaret Mannion Castleblakeney. Mr Ned Donohue. Ashfield Castleblakeney and Mr. John Keating Ashfield Castleblakeney. Houses were more numerous in former times locally and there are many ruins now in the district. Many people emigrated from here in former times to America. About half the land is good and half boggy. There is a wood down in Greenville called the "Greenville wood" and there are two rivers namely, the clune river and the Island river. In olden times people washed the clothes in the river.
