Long ago they used to sow the flax in May, and used to pull it when the blossom fell off. They used bind it in sheaves and steep it in bog-water. Then they used bring it home and scutch it and hackle it and roll it up in small bundles ready for spinning. It has to be sown in a very deep piece of land.

This well, to all I do appeal was once, great use, to Carrowkeel. Enclosed in, by its little bank
'Tis the purest water eer was drank.
On Sundays when o'erpowered by heat
I sought this well which was no cheat
It woun't set me mad or make me blind
Or make me leave my cash behind
