- (continued from previous page)hold the thread. They would have to keep the flax wet in order that it would spin. Then they would wind it hanks" for the weaver. Long ago they used to sow the flax in May, and used to pull it when the blossom fell off. They used bind it in sheaves and steep it in bog-water. Then they used bring it home and scutch it and hackle it and roll it up in small bundles ready for spinning. It has to be sown in a very deep piece of land.
