   Customs which were common in this country down to the eighties of the ninteenth century.

   At that time matches were very scarce and in country places where markets were held a man went through the market with a torch in his hand to light the pipes of those people who used to smoke. They paid him a little for this. The cabáin which are now called tents were then very numerous. Some of these people who held them used to go into the market, buy a staggard sheep or some cheap animal, slaughter it, cook and serve it there and then to those who called for dinner there. These were numerous for fairs at that time were few and largely attended.

   Drink was cheap and there was much drunkeness and many rows. Hucksters went through the country selling small quantities of goods in exchange
