- Long ago men who are called tailors went about from house to house tailoring. They used make up to half a dozen suits of clothes for one family before leaving that house. It was all needle-work done by hand. There was no such thing as machine work which often kept them working three weeks in one house. The owner of course provided the material. How the got the name tailor or TailliúiríOne time a foreman tailor with eleven other tailors was going to work in a farmer's house one day in March. Two ganders attacked the twelve tailors and beat them to teh ropes. The foreman cried out " Tá illúirid,, Tá illúiridh which meant defeated . Thus they derived the word or name táilliúirí.
