- Long ago people got married during the "Seraft." The unlucky days were Monday, Wednesday, and Friday and they were called "la na leant." Money and stock and goods were always given as a fortune. About a hundred years ago the people were married by the priest in their own homes. Then the poeple brought a duck or a hen or a goose or five shillings to the house of the wedding. The "straw men" were dressed in women's clothes and straw hats. The "straw men" got welcome in the house of the wedding because they danced and played music. Long ago if they did not come they thought it no marriage at all. People often raced home from the marriage(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
