- The houses that were in the district long ago were tatched. There were no slate houses in the country but there was slated houses in the towns. The roofs that were in the thatched houses were made of "scraws" and timber and then thatched with straw.Long ago some of the people used to sow the thatch with a thatchin needle and rope. On certain houses they used to keep beds in the corner. These were used only on small houses and where there was only one room. These beds are called "hags"(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
