  2. My mother told me that the youngest person in the house should bring in the rushes and put them down near the door and let the oldest person make the cross and hang it up on St Brigid's Eve.
    The old people say that if you put a cake of bread near the door on New Year;s night it would keep out the hunger for the rest of the year.
