    Up with old straw hats on their heads. When one batch would be going in the other batch would be going out. Two batches would not be left in the house together because they would fight. Thirty and forty used to be in every batch.

  2. Jeremiah Dee (60) told me how they used to rope anyone on Shrove Tuesday that would not be married on that day. They would tie them up with a rope and carry them to Skellige. The following Sunday they would be chalked in the Chapel. that old custom has gone out of the country for the last twenty years.
