  1. Long ago the people had a lot of old prayers, some of them were.
As I lay my head to sleep,
I give my soul to God to keep,
And if I die before I wake,
I hope that God my soul will take,
There are four corners on my bed,
Four angels there are o'er my head,
Its Mattew, mark, Luke and John,
God bless the bed that I lie on.
No 2. As I lay down my head to rest, I ask thee O Lord to defend and govern me for a short and miserable pilgrimage and bring me to life everlasting
    AMEN.
No. 3. O Angel of God,
    My guardien dear,
    To whom Gods love,
    Commits me here,
    Ever this day,
    be at my side,

    To rule and guide.
No. 4. A short prayer for little children is
