  1. There are fairs held in every town. Every month a fair is held in these towns - Oldcastle, Kilnaleck, Virginia and Ballyjamesduff. A fair is held in Mt. Nugent May 1st and June 1st. This used to be a great fair long ago. The town fairs are held on the green or in the streets. Buyers often transact business at the farm houses or on the roads.
When an animal is sold a luckpenny is given. When a bargain has been made the parties show their agreement by striking hands together. When an animal is sold it is marked with raddle, or the hair is clipped off the flank. There are special fairs for cattle, horses, pigs.
