    When the first snow comes about Xmas the children are in great glee. They say that the plucking of the geese is going on in Scotland.

  2. In a backward townland about a mile from here two brothers and one sister lived on a small farm. They were all a little advanced in age, and though they had a nice gathering of money they were noted misers. Coming on to Xmas they began to deal in every house in the village to ensure that they would get a Xmas box in each shop. One Christmas eve they came into the village, left their cart outside and then went around the shops getting a little and of course a Xmas box in each. The milk was scarce with them at home so the sister got some baking powder in one shop in order to bake a Xmas cake at home. Homeward they went and when the Xmas things were removed from the cart and brought indoor, the sister set to with the baking powder and made a cake.
    Later that night they had the big supper,
