- (continued from previous page)Regiment left by two officers and guarded by the Runaway Highlander arrived back to the townland of Currycramp and made a thorough search for the missing men. My uncle said that what the officer kept saying during the search was remembered clearly.

With the searchers was Durke Croplin, the landlord of the townland, and captain of the yeomen. The Highlander's body was not got so the soldiers were on the point of burning the townland to the ground when Croptain intervened and saved it from destruction - Before I leave from this subject of the Battle of Ballinamuck I would like to refer to another point and its connection. It is this:- The night before this battle Generals Blake and Humbert encamped in Cloone. The officers were billeted in the Rectory there and the Parson's name was West. In the morning (as the History says) the chains of the gun wagons were gone(continues on next page)
