   "Hurls" Spaces to the left and right of the brace. They were made of wooden frames interlaced with wattles. There was no covering on the outside. A creelful of potatoes was kept in each hurl to be dry for making potatoe [potato] bread puddings and boxty etc. People have long since ceased to keep potatoes in the hurls, but the hurls still remain and are used for holding odds and ends.
