  1. 1. There was an old hedge school beside the present house of Dan Fay in Kilnacor Crosskeys. Peggy the Mistress taught in it. No person now living remembers Peggy. “She got no pay except what pennies the children brought her.” There is no trace of the School now. Irish was taught
    2. There was another old hedge school beside Peter Bennet’s House in Corglas. There are no remains left.
    3. In the plot of land opposite Paddy Brady’s cottage in Killyteane a site of an old School is pointed out.
    4. Near the present Banaho school the remains of the old school are to be seen.
    5. There was another school in Crosskeys division of Denn but it’s location is forgotten.
    Cross keys Church was built in 1839 the year of the Big Wind. Any person born that year was pension age when the pension came out.
