- The following words are used in every day conversation in this district:-Lucán : pig smaller than the other pigs of a litter applied to persons in the same sense – “He’s the lucán of the family” “rut” used in the same sense.
Storkán : a small stocky pig – or person
Cluidín : a short thick-set person
Pucóg : anything hung from an animal’s horns to cover the eyes , and prevent thieving – generally a piece of tin taken from an old bucket.
Púka : A fairy supposed to be abroad on Hallow Eve night , and who defiles blackberries, haws etc. So that they are not eatable after that night
Méirín : A protective covering for a sore finger.
Greesach : Live Ashes
Praskeen : An Apron , generally used in reference to a soiled or untidy one.
Briotac : said of a person who has a defective utterance
Cúl : the back hair
A Mac : ( a mhic ) addressed indiscriminately to boy or girl
Brogue : boots
-een : Suffix to Christian name e.g. Shameen , Mikeen , Tómaisín , usually in a contemptuous sense
