    lake through Fan bog to the monastery by which the people went to hear mass. There is another cave going from that monastery to another in Brennanstown on the other side of Fan bog. This house is concealed between two hills and it was there that the priest hid himself and went through the cave to the monastery to celebrate mass. One day a man named Manning who lived in Castletown "sold the pass" to the English soldiers and as they were approaching the monastery, a writing appears on the wall to tell the priest that the soldiers were coming and that Manning had sold the secret pass and from that day the name Manning is cursed.
    "Let all unite for Ireland's right,
    And drown our grief in Freedom's song.
    Till time shall veil in twilight haze.
    The memory of those Penal Days".
