    right to hang an old shoe to the motor car of the persons that are getting married as a sign of good luck.
    My father told me a rhyme about the Shrove and this is it:-
    Monday for health,
    Tuesday for wealth,
    Wednesday the best day of all,
    Thursday for losses,
    Friday for crosses,
    And Saturday no luck at all.
    Marriages are made in this district. Money as a rule is given as a fortune.
    Some people remember hearing about persons being married in their own houses. In that time Churches were scarce and often times a house may be twenty miles away from a Church. This happened about a hundred and twenty years ago.
    At that time people used have great weddings. First of all when the marriage was arranged there would be a great night at the girl's house, known as "the picking of the gander". This was so called because they had plenty of geese to eat.
