- Re, the account given above the Hedge Schools in pages 57-61 of this book I was going through old school books the property of my grandfather and grandmother who went to "hedge teachers" in Kilrush. My grandmother was taught by a Miss Kent who held a school in Francis Street. A Mr Considine also taught boys in or about the same period. My grandfather and grandmother were married about the year 1841. My grandfather would be about 30 yrs and my grandmother about 25 yrs when they were married.I give a list of the school books I discovered with the dates of publication. They probably were used by the oldest children of the family.Selection from the British Poets from Chaucer to the present day. Published by the direction of the Commissioners of Na.
