- We grow about a quarter of an acre of potatoes each year. We always try to have them in before St. Patrick's Day.
The farmers in our locality always help to set each other's potatoes.
We plough our garden with a steel plough and two horses. But of late years a tractor is being used around Dundrum.
About three weeks after ploughing, the garden we harrow it a couple of times and crush it with a wooden crusher. Then we open the drills and put the manure along the furrows. The seed best suited to our land is Kerr's Pinks. We put lime in the seed to heal the part that is cut. When the seed is laid we close the drills. When the potatoes are over ground we bush them and grub them and stone the furrows.(continues on next page)
