  1. (continued from previous page)
First he buys a bar of shoeing iron about twelve feet long, The he cuts it into pieces, allowing about ten inches for each shoe, He reddens the piece of iron in the kitchen fire and then with a hammer rounds it, Then he reddens it well again and rounds and shapes the other side, Next he punches the nail holes. He then fits in on the horse's hoof and if it is too long he takes a bit off. If it is too short he hammers it to make it longer.
When the shoes are made to his liking he puts them on the horse putting four nails on the outside and three on the inside. Then he cuts off the tops of nails and turns them back.
