  1. Thatched houses are very hard to keep in order, you must grow wheat every year to have straw to thatch them. The straw has to be drawn through a rake to clean the dirt from it, and then it is made into bundles. Then you must get hazel switched and cut them in lengths about two feet long and point the two ends. When you have both ready you must get a ladder, and put it up on the house, and thatch in streaks about two feet (long) wide, and stitch the straw with the hazel pointed lengths, and pare down the thatch with a knife to finish it nicely.
