  1. There was a cooper living near the railway in Fethard, about three miles from here, who used to make baskets for all the farmers around. These baskets were used for picking potatoes in. He earned from six to eight shillings a week on baskets alone. He used to sell them at three pence a basket. He often made egg coops. This is how he got his name "Cooper Cummins".
