   When a change for wet weather comes the cricket creeps out of his hiding place and starts singing around the hearth. The midges come down out of the sky when it is going to be wet, as do the flying ants. When we see the beetles creeping around the house at night, it is a sign that we are going to have a little rain. Showers may come when the spider is seen creeping along the wall.

   When the wind blows from the north it is said that it brings cold harsh weather. Sometimes too it brings snow as is said in a rhyme. "The north wind doth blow and we shall have snow". The wind from the east brings showery weather. The north-east wind is supposed to bring a disease. If the wind is blowing from the west sleet and hail are expected. It is the south winds that bring the most rain. But in the summer the south wind is said to bring the best and mildest weather. The north-east wind brings
