  1. The Mountain Stream
    Hear it rushing, bubbling, gushing
    Falling away in a lonely roar.
    Hear it sighing, hear it crying for
    the times it will see no more.
    the children patter, and lightly chatter
    grasping at each shining beam
    And pause to listen, where the waters glisten
    to the rumbling call of the Mountain Stream.
    Years too have flown, life seeds have grown
    And children now in youth no more
    Far o'er the foam, sigh for their homes
    on a foreign far away shore.
    And some yet still live by each will (?)
    they have known it in children's dream
    And in manhood's prime think of the time
    when they listened to the call of the M. Stream.
    Still another page, and another age,
    gaze we now in grief worn men.
    who loved to play the long bright day
    in times long ago by heath and fen
    Still through the years and it's shining tears
    flashes of olden days of gleam.
    And again they listen, when the waters glisten
