Local Song (continued)
“Tis now I am bound for a far distant shore”
(continued from previous page)my view
By each crystal fountain my course to pursue
Where the verdure of Spring and the heather flowers grow
The milk maid sings sweetly in the valley below.
Adieu unto Millstreet that neat little town.
Of beauty, of honour of fame and renown
Of home and prosperity and sweet unity
There is a distant fond object that reminds me of thee
That shore where the salmon and trout do be seen
That washes the shores of Licrea and Dooneen.
Now to conclude and finish my oration
Far dearer to me is the whole Irish nation
My home and my country my friends and relations
Perhaps I may never behold them again
For its o'er the Atlantic I am now going to see
Freedom, prosperity and sweet unity.- Collector
