   Local Cures

   In former times the people used to seek remedies for their ailments by visiting holy wells and from other local sources. The following are some -

   Cures

   Ailments
   Warts
   1. A pieces of meat used to be buried in the ground and when the meat used to decay the warts used to fall off.
   2. Another cure was to break the stem of the "bainn an dhiabhail" [?] and squeeze the juice on the wart.
   3. To tie a rib of horse's hair around the wart and squeeze off the head.
   4. To rub castor - oil to them.

   Whooping Cough
   1. To give the ferrets "leavings" of food to drink or eat to the patent. The food left after the ferret is commonly called the "ferrets leavings".
   2. To meet a man with a white horse and ask him for a cure for the "Whooping cough" and whatever he say must be done.
   3. To pass the child three times under a mare donkey.

   Sore Throat
   1. To heat the skin of old fat meat and to put it in the sore throat.
   2. To put a poultice of very hot bran into a woollen
