  1. A cattle, sheep and horse fair was held monthly at Hill Terrace.
    Cabbage market opposite the Allin Institute.
    Meat was sold at the Shambles.
    Fish Market was where Mr. Bateman's Garage is now.
    Potatoes, other vegetables and fruit markets were held at Market Street.
    Wool was sold where Slattery's Garage is in Market Street.
    Eggs, butter, fowl were sold where Mr. Murphy the contractor has his stores now.
    The Duke of Devonshire owned all the property.

  2. There were 3 tanyards in Watergate one of which was owned by Clare and the other two were owned by Sullivans. Clare lived at the end of Watergate St. and Sullivan lived at Jeffer's service-hall.
    Billie Sullivan lived beside the convent in Convent Hill. A man named Barrett owned a tanyard in Gallow's Hill. Smith's tanyard was at Driscoll's yard in Stanton's Lane of Cavendish Quay. Mr. Smith lived beside the yard.
