  1. Potatoes are grown on my farm. Every year about an acre and a quarter is sown The ground is at first manured with farmyard manure before it is turned. They are chiefly sown in ridges. The ridges are made by plough six scrapes in width. The plough is used instead of the spade Wooden ploughs were used in former years. There are none of them to be seen throughout the parish at the present day. Spades are usually bought in shops. The seed are at first cut with a knife each piece bearing an eye. Then holes are made in the ridges with a spade and one seed is thrown into each hole Lastly the holes are closed. Some neighbours help each other to sow the potatoes.
