  1. Ship-wrecks
A steam boat named the Memphis sailed from Montreal with a general cargo bound for Liverpool in the year 1896. In a thick fog she struck a rock in a place called Dun Lough a few miles distant from Crookhaven. Eleven of the crew were lost. She remained there until she became a total wreck.
Another steam boat was wrecked there after the Memphis named the Oswestern. She was also bound for Liverpool with a general cargo. The captain and six of the crew were lost.
