    The curious features of the lake is (?)
    (1) its never varies in level
    (2) Reputed bottom
    (3) Reputed dangerous to swim in as the water lacks buoyancy.
    NOTE: Some one name unknown tested it in length of fishing line and failed to reach bottom.

    Eskir - name of townland
    situate east of Taughmaconnell. Row of sand hill which rise to height of two hundred feet.

    Clonohill (also spelled Clonoghil) Townland
    situate on left hand side of road leading from Athlone to Taughmaconnell.
    There is the ruins of an old church in the centre of the townland and its supposed that yew tree were growing near it. Hence the name.

    Ballygeata Townland
    situate eastern portion of Taughmaconnell. There was one a gate on the road which leads to the Athlone Taughmaconnell road. The piers are still standing.
    The village is also called Gatestown. This road is supposed to have been a mass path to the church refered to in the note on Clonohill above.
