1. A hedge existed in Church Park. It was situate in Jim Green's Field. The school was in the open air, an old stable roofed with straws was used om winter.
O'Reilly from Creagh Ballinasloe taught this school. Each child paid 2 pence per week. He was fed and lodged in the house of the children in turn. Reading, writing and Arithmetic were taught - no Irish. English was the language used by the teacher. The children sat on the floor or ground. A slate pencil (ie. a corner broken from slate) was used for writing.
Martin Crearin, father of James Crearin Church Park Taghmaconnell attended this school about 15 years ago
2. A hedge school existed in John Lynch's field Chapel St. Taughmaconnell. An open air school in Summer and a hut was used in Winter.(continues on next page)- Informant
