    Verses written on a spree held in our village about the year 1900 in the house of a very cranky indivual who went by the nick name of "Ugly Grin" by one of our local ballad makers named Thomas Brennan long since dead.
    The lines are as follows. I
    The snow lay deep upon the ground,
    It was hard for to get in.
    To hold a porter spree that night,
    Above with "Ugly Grin"
    The ass went to the crossroads,
    He bore a heavy load,
    The miss Mc Garrys they came out.
    And cheered him up the road.

    Mary Linehan she came there,
    And she was a beauty bright,
    Oh: you would think she was Ganley's daughter,
    In her glistening robes of white
    Yes, Mary Linehan she came there,
    And played her concertina
    And gave Eddie Lally his favourite tune
    "My darling Nora Creena
