- In the year 1917, there was a big fall of snow in the month of January. The snow lasted for seven weeks and it was five or six feet in depth. Traffic of all kinds was held up, on that account there was a scarcity of food supply. Not only did the people suffer in this heavy snow-fall, but also all out-lying animals many of which died from hunger. This snow fall is fresh in the people's memory for at that time there was an election called the Count Plunkett Election. This big happening was told to me by:Transcribed by a member of our volunteer transcription project.
